When to Go Gray

When to Go Gray
Gray Hair is On Trend

When to go gray is different for every woman. Today attitudes have changed regarding going gray and young women are embracing gray hair color. Looking natural is in-style and usually your natural color hair is most flattering with your skin color.

Gray requires a woman to be confident in herself and not be worried about what other people think of her. If you are young you have the option of covering your gray or letting  it grow out.

If you have colored hair and want to go natural discuss with your hair colorist how he or she suggests doing it. High lighting your colored hair and letting the new gray grow out normally is one painless way to go. Some women want to remove all color before going gray.

Should you change your hair color to gray now that it has become trendy and in-style? Not necessarily. Depends on your job. If you are in a creative field you can go gray without a stigma. If you are in a traditional job or an industry with mostly young folks you might want to have colored hair.

If you feel you need to color your hair it is normal to have lighter color hair as you age. Go a little lighter and/or add some highlights to avoid looking older. Short hair styles are more youthful and very flattering on short women or older women with gray hair.

You can look washed out when you go gray but you will find the skin around your face looks softer. Colors and different shades of grays look great around your face when your hair is a gray color. Silver jewelry usually flatters gray haired women. You will want to have your makeup re-done to flatter your new hair color if you go gray.

What is a flattering hair length for women over 40?
So many of my clients have posed the question “What is a flattering hair length for women over 40?” My answer is that it is relative to the individual’s face shape, body proportions and individual style. Really, the same rules apply at any age, the difference being that what worked at 30 may or may not work at 50 or 60, depending on how much these things have changed.

Have Fun with Your Hair Color
Hair color is exciting and can communicate energy, enthusiasm and a youthful attitude. Almost everywhere you go these days someone passes by with color in their hair. Some gals are going all the way with full heads of bold hair color, such as orange, green or purple, to transform themselves. Or many fashion divas are adding areas of color or color art to their dos for fun.

Maintain Healthy Hair
How is it possible to maintain healthy hair and deliver a spectacular color or texture service as well? One of my biggest concerns in the salon is keeping the integrity of each clientʼs hair while performing various chemical services. With so much emphasis on celebrity hair changes, I find an increasing amount of requests for similar looks from a wide variety of clientele.
