Headwear is the fashion statement in every woman’s wardrobe at these events. Traditionally women wear extravagant hats and they have become associated with the Kentucky Derby. However fascinators are becoming more popular at the Kentucky Derby these days. Fascinators are decorative headpieces consisting of feathers, flowers, beads, etc. smaller than hats. These chic, headpieces are made from a woven disc topped with feathers and netting and secured to your head via a comb or headband popularized by Kate Middleton,. They can be lighter weight and easier to wear than a hat.

Pulling Off the Hat Trend
Pulling off the hat trend has to do with color, proportion, your hair style and confidence. The color of hat you wear should flatter your skintone (warm or cool) color. Choose hat colors that work with most of your wardrobe. Proportion has to do with the size of the hat and/or brim. Tall women can pull off larger size hats and hats with larger brims but shorter females are best to go with smaller size hats and no more than a 3 inch brim.
