What styles of clothes flatter a pear shape figure?

Before choosing styles of clothes for a pear shape figure be sure you have the right undergarments. Pear shape bodies are smaller on the top and wider in the lower body like a pear. Drawing attention to your upper half makes a flattering bra very important. A good push-up bra will lift your chest.

In general clothes that flatter a pear shape figure are:

Necklines that widen your shoulders, such as boat necks, square, bateau, sweetheart, strapless, and off the shoulder necklines, are very flattering and balance your bottom half.

Tops with puff or statement sleeves that narrow at the wrist or tops with detail around the shoulders, neckline, or collar also draw attention upward away from your hip area. Crop tops and horizontal prints are also good top choices. When tops are tucked in they show off your waist and curves.

Pants. Minimize your hip area by wearing dark color bottoms with flat plain fronts. Avoid pockets near your hips or other detailing like peplums. Choose mid or high waisted ankle length styles with wide, straight, flared legs or bootleg pants.

Skirts and dresses. A-line or fit and flare skirts are the most flattering on pear shape figures. Avoid full skirts that add volume to your hips. Princess, wrap and A -line dresses are best.

Shoes with pointed toes elongate your figure and heels will give you a lift.

Jackets and coats. A cropped jacket adds volume to the bust and shoulder areas and coats that end right under the hips and mid-thigh are flattering. Also princess style coats are a great choice.

Tip:  Avoid anything that ends on the widest part of your hips.

Dressing For Your Body Type
No two people are alike but there are similar shapes that can be categorized as body types. Knowing your body type/ shape is important. In order to look good you need to choose clothing styles that flatter you. Few if any of us have the “perfect figure.”

Do I have an hourglass or pear shape body type?

An hourglass figure is near perfect. Shoulders and hips are around the same size with a defined waist that is 25% smaller than shoulders, hips, and bust measurements.

A pear shape or triangle body type has wider hips than their shoulders. If your hips are 1 3/4 inches larger than your shoulders you have this body type.

Since you don’t feel confident wearing a bodycon dress and you describe yourself having a big butt you probably have more of a pear or triangle body type. Look for dresses with wide necklines and off the shoulders to balance your hips. Empire dresses, halter, and strapless styles are flattering on pear or triangle body types too.
