What is permanent jewelry?

Permanent jewelry is welded, soldered or securely fastened to your body and can only be removed with special tools or scissors.

The permanent jewelry trend began with social media sites such as TikTok. Bracelets are currently the most popular permanent pieces but necklaces, anklets or rings can be welded on as well.

Advantages of the jewelry are that you don’t have to worry about losing a special piece or dealing with difficult clasps. In addition it is a way to bond with family, friend(s) or a significant other.

Some jewelry shops around the country are offering the chance to have permanent jewelry. Prices range from a flat fee to several hundred dollars for heavier pieces or pieces with gemstones and metal charms. A solid gold bracelet runs around $100.00. Most shops require an appointment.

Things to consider before you go permanent are that heavy pieces may interfere with metal detectors and permanent jewelry cannot be worn for an MRI. When having an X-ray it’s up to the doctor if you can wear permanent jewelry or not. However if you can’t cut it off jewelry can be removed for a fee.
