What is an engagement party dress code?

An engagement party dress code will likely fall into one of four basic categories: casual, semi-formal, formal, or black tie. Check the invitation for a dress code or text the hostess of the party.

  • Casual: This is the most relaxed dress code, meaning it’s also pretty versatile. For women, floral patterns evoke feelings of romance and joy, which is very fitting for the occasion.
  • Semi-formal: Right in between casual and cocktail attire is semi-formal, which is a step above casual but not quite as dressed up as cocktail.
  • Formal and black tie dress codes would look glam with a dressy cocktail dress or floor-length gown.

A daytime engagement party calls for casual clothes but cocktail or evening parties require semi-formal or formal attire.
