Video conferencing 101 Basics

Video conferencing 101 Basics

All of a sudden we are all-seeing family and friends or for work via the internet. Watch what looks good on personalities when you see them video conferencing on TV or you computer and see what looks good and what doesn’t.

Here are a few tips for looking your best when doing  a video chat or video conferencing.

Good grooming is number one since the camera is primarily on your face. Hair should be neat and in a simple style. The way your eyebrows look is quite important. Easy on the eye makeup, mascara is probably enough. If you are holding anything in your hands, nails should look good. Avoid bright lipstick.

Clothing should be simple in style and in colors that look the best on you. Blue looks great on almost everyone. Avoid bright, white or extremely dark colors as they do not look great in close-up. Avoid patterns and prints such as polka dots, stripes or animal prints. Solid colors look best. Be sure your clothes fit well.

Accessories should be simple for business or work videos.  Do not wear jewelry that makes noise when you move as it will be distracting.

Background color should be neutral and without clutter. Avoid overhead lighting and have primary lights behind your camera. Don’t sit in front of a window.

Final Thought. Perhaps if you have any doubts about your video presentation, do a test communication with a friend and seek their critical comments before addressing a large group.
