Can I transform a prom dress?

Can I transform a prom dress? It’s a sleeveless/boob tube dress, mint green with gold details on the waist made with tulle and satin from the waist downwards (floor length).

Your mint green boob tube prom dress sounds pretty perfect as it is for another formal evening event. Proms are formals so it should work. You can transform your prom dress by shortening your tube skirt but leaving the tulle skirt long for a new/updated look. Style with strappy gold sandals and a gold sequin clutch and try some statement earrings with gold.

For an edgy (feminine but tough)look tulle is being combined with combat boots and leather jackets this season.

What Hairstyle & Makeup is Appropriate for a Formal Event?
The hairstyle & makeup that is appropriate for a formal event is the one that flatters your face. An invitation to a formal event is very exciting and an opportunity to dress up. Should you wear a different hairstyle or makeup? You probably are wearing your hair in a style that you think looks good on you so why not stick with the tried and true. If you are wanting a new hairstyle and have time to experiment before the event you might try some new styles. Usually with medium or long hair you have more styling options than someone with short hair and you can try different ways to wear your hair before the formal event. However it is important to feel confident at every event. If a new hairstyle will detract from your confidence level don’t go there.

Are black tie weddings formal affairs?
Black tie on an invitation means that the event is formal. Men wear tuxedos and women dress up. Today women dress more casual than years ago. Previously it was appropriate to wear floor length dresses / gowns when black tie was specified. Today fancy cocktail dresses or floor length gowns are appropriate. For black tie events in Washington DC,  for Opera, Ballet or Symphony openings more women will wear long gowns. A cocktail dress is appropriate for black tie weddings or events such as Xmas parties.
