Is there a perfect skirt length?

Skirt Length Guide
There is no perfect skirt length or hemlline for everyone. We are living in an age that anything goes if it looks good on you. Women want to express themselves and create their own style. However around knee length is the perfect skirt length that is flattering and in good taste on most women.

You can determine if a skirt length or hemline is good on you if you consult a mirror and consider the following:

Cut and style of the dress or skirt.
Basic skirt styles are mini, maxi, A-line, pleated or flared. Cuts of each style vary from slim to different amounts of fullness and pleats. The perfect style and cut varies depending on body type and skirt length.

Your age.
When you are in your 20’s and 30’s you can wear long, short, mini or maxi skirts if your figure is good. No miniskirts if you are heavy or over 45.  Over 40 knee length skirts are the most appropriate.

Your height and body type.
Shorter women should stick to skirt lengths around their knees. Taller women 5′ 7″ or over can wear midi or ankle length skirts. In general heavier women should go a little longer. For example if you are 5’2″ and heavy go 1 ” below the knees.

Tip: If you have bad legs avoid short skirts and if you are short and heavy avoid skirts and wear monochromatic pants and tops.

Can 45-year-olds wear mini skirts?

Mini skirts are youthful-looking and can be worn if you are over 45. A mini-skirt worn with dark opaque tights or leggings can work if you are 45 or older and have a good figure. In general, most women over 40 have unattractive knees. To look your best you don’t want to show off any part of your body that is ugly.

As you grow older the less skin you show the better. After you reach 40 the most flattering skirt length, with bare legs or nude color stockings, is at mid-knee or a little higher if you have good-looking legs or a little lower than knee-length if you are taller.

Can short women wear midi skirts?
Midi skirts hit at the mid calf area of the leg making you appear shorter. Perfect for tall women. In general midi length skirts are not very flattering on short females unless they are slim. If you have a few extra pounds on your frame a midi length skirt will make you look shorter and heavier. Midi skirts look great with fitted or cropped tops. Change your look by pairing them with different footwear and accessories. Try everything on and do a mirror test to see how any style looks on you. Always accentuate the positive! Tip: Style a midi skirt with a t-shirt and sneakers for a modern look.

Longer Skirts are Timeless

Longer skirts are summer essentials and can be styled to look casual, formal and/or flirty. Ankle-brushing long skirts have cachet this season. They are useful because they work for multiple dress codes making them a great investment. Another plus is that you won’t trip easily when walking and/or dancing in them.

Longer skirts come in a variety of styles from pleated, slip, swooshy, straight and slited, showing off some leg. They come in different fabrics such as silk, crepe, jacquard, denim, tulle and cotton.

Style full skirts with a fitted top. Loose style tops look best with straight skirts. Other tops that can amp up your style are bandeau tops, t-shirts, crop tops, tank tops or a blouse with puff sleeves.

As far as footwear anything goes tennis shoes, flat sandals, sliders/mules, birkenstocks, loafers, pointed-toe heels, chunky black boots. Experiment with a shoe that fits your mood and makes your skirt work.

Pair your ankle brushing skirt with a jean jacket, leather jacket, or a cardigan. A blazer can give a more formal look.
