Can I update this dress for a March wedding?

Can I update this dress for a March wedding? Can I update this dress for a March wedding? I have a wedding in San Diego on March 7th. I have a dress I really like but not sure if it’s right for this time of year. It is floor length with the bodice being sheer with some sequins and long-sleeves, but the rest is black velvet. I’m also thinking about shortening it to just above the knee. I am not comfortable showing my legs so I would wear sheer black nylons with closed toe pumps. The invitation says formal. I am 59, 5’8′ and 150.

A March wedding will be here soon. Since you really like the dress you have described and it looks good on you, it sounds like it would be a good idea to update it. If the long sleeves are in the sheer fabric, as the bodice of your dress, they will work with a black velvet skirt for a formal wedding in March. If you get it shortened the hemline should  reach mid-knee or top of your knees. Sheer black stockings will be perfect with black pumps or black sandals. Talk to your tailor and get his or her opinion if shortening the dress will work, plus the cost of the alterations before you decide. Also be sure you will feel good and be confident wearing the dress.

Can I wear velvet to a movie premier in March?
A movie premier sounds like a fun special event. You get to see a new movie before it opens to the public. Velvet is soooo luxurious and sensual! Something in velvet should be perfect in March and perfect for a movie premier. If the group going to this event is more laid back, something like casual velvet jeans or pants would be fabulous and would look fine with a “T”, sweater or shirt style blouse in denim. Shoe options would be, sneakers, ankle shoes, flats or pumps. If this is a more formal event you can go with a cocktail style dress in velvet or ramp up a classic velvet sheath, pants or skirt outfit with a piece of statement jewelry. An other option is to wear a velvet pantsuit. You can dress it up or down depending on top and accessories.
