She appeared in several films with her mother when she was in her teens. After several days of college she was offered a role in the movie Blue Velvet, regarded as her breakthrough performance, and she dropped out of college to pursue an acting career. Laura was married to Ben Harper in 2005 and divorced in 2013. They have two children.
Laura Dern is in two Oscar-nominated movies: as the kind-hearted mother of the March sisters in “Little Women” and as a divorce lawyer in “Marriage Story.” She won a Golden Globe for “Marriage Story” in 2019.
