One of 12 children, she was born in 1946 in Tennessee in a shack without running water or electricity. She began singing on the radio at age 10 and at 13 Dolly was introduced at the Grand Ole Opry by Johnny Cash. She left home after graduating from high school. Dolly is married to Carl Dean, who prefers to stay in the background, and they have no children.
