Summer Sales, Stretch Your Clothing Dollars

Stretch Your Clothing Dollar Clean Your Closet, Save Money

Summer sales are a time to stretch your clothing dollars. First do a closet audit by going through your summer wardrobe and start tossing out summer clothes that don’t fit you or you have not been wearing this season. You can take the rejects to your favorite charity and get a tax write off. The keepers are pieces that are in good condition and that you wear more often than anything else.

Look at what you have remaining and then make a list of what pieces you need. Then decide on a budget. Armed with your list and budget head for the summer sales or check out your favorite retailers’ websites. The stores are brimming with bargains and they will continue to mark down items all month and into September.

Caution: do not buy anything on sale that is not on your list. Look for classic/staple items that will be good for several seasons. Stay away from trendy items. Be sure to take into consideration your figure type and coloring when making choices. Also stay within your budget. By adding new items now, you’ll be set for next summer and will not have to spend as much next year on your spring/summer wardrobe.

How to Determine a Clothing Budget –  Decide how much you can spend on clothing for the year. Then divide that amount into Spring/Summer and Fall /Winter budgets, taking into account the climate you live in. If you have a long winter allow 2/3 of budget to Fall/Winter and 1/3 for Spring/Summer, etc.
