Can I use stretch (knit) fabrics with African print (woven) fabrics?

Fabrics of different weaves and weights such as stretch (knit) fabrics and woven fabrics can be used together in a garment. For a beginner seamstress it can be a little tricky but there are many sites and blogs that offer tips to help you in doing it successfully.  It is important to begin with a simple pattern that will work with knit & woven fabrics. You may need to give special consideration to how you stitch and finish the seams since each fabric type may require a different technique. It might be necessary to have two different seam finishes on the same seam. However combining different fabrics such as a stretch (knit) fabric with an African print (woven) fabric provides an opportunity to add special details to your garment and the freedom to express yourself.
