What does “smart casual” mean?
What does “smart casual” mean? I just received an invitation specifying “smart casual”.
Smart casual refers to a business casual dress code. Ask yourself what you would wear to work on a casual Friday. You want to look more smart than casual, more of a stylish casual that looks neat but is informal.
A skirt with shirt style blouse, pants or dark jeans (not too tight) with a blouse and blazer or simple style dress with a cardigan sweater would be “smart casual”. Your clothing should fit you perfectly and should not be not too revealing.
Style your outfit with accessories to give it an extra punch and elevate your look. You can do this with jewelry, shoes, color or bag. Avoid large bags. A clutch bag or medium size bag will work. It is definitely smarter to be under-dressed than over-dressed otherwise you look ridiculous in today’s world.

When types of “dress codes” are indicated such as “Smart Casual”, “Cocktail Party attire,” “Tailgate Party”, “Festive”, “Cocktail Chic” or etc. it can throw us for a loop. Where should one begin to figure out what any of these types of dress codes mean?
How to Wear a Brooch
An attractive brooch can turn an ordinary outfit into something fabulous. The brooch can go in an out of style but a brooch is a classic jewelry piece to own. In fact it is fun to have more than two or three. Brooches come in a variety of materials, styles and sizes and are very versatile jewelry pieces that can be worn with casual or dressy clothes.
