Oscar night is arriving. The top contenders for best actress award are: Sally Hawkins, “The Shape of Water”, Frances McDormand, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”, Marwot Robbie, “I, Tonya”, Saoirse Ronan, “Lady Bird” and Meryl Streep, for “The Post”.

Besides what they wear to the Oscars there is a lot of thought, work and business involved in planning for this huge event. Looking good involves flattering hair styles, the right makeup and a gorgeous dress. Picking the right dress starts early. Actresses want to look fabulous. They may try as many as 60 dresses on before choosing their Oscar gown. Several practical requirements of Oscar gowns are dresses that don’t wrinkle easily and dresses that photograph well. Sometimes underwear is sewn directly into a gown to hide lines or straps, then removed before returning the dress. It all looks so easy and effortless to the viewers but the dressing process could take from 3 to 12 hours.

Some actresses have multi million-plus dollar deals with specific designers such as Dior, Tom Ford, Louis Vuitton, etc. over a few years which means they will wear these labels at the Oscars and specific events during the tenure. These contracts also extend to accessories, such as jewellery.

A big mystery is how or if actresses want to carry a message of ‘fashion for rights’ tonight . Will they be dressing in aspecific color or wear  something else to send a message? We need to wait and see.
