What is appropriate attire for attending a NYC Ballet?
What is appropriate attire for attending a NYC Ballet? I am invited to attend a ballet at Lincoln Center in February.
What a treat to be invited to the NYC Ballet at Lincoln Center. Going to a ballet at Lincoln Center is a special treat and an occasion to dress up. If you are attending an evening performance you can don a LBD (Little Black Dress) or something in a dressy fabric like velvet pants and a sequin top or you can wear business attire after work on a week night. For a ballet in the afternoon you can still get dressed up or dress more casually. Dresses or separates (skirts or pants and tops) are all appropriate. Shop your closet for something that fits you perfectly and is in good taste (not too short, too tight or too low-cut). Many people attend theatre, ballet., symphony and / or opera dressed casually even in jeans but it is more appropriate to dress up a little. Formal attire is not appropriate unless you are attending a special opening and black tie is required. You may want to bring opera glasses or small binoculars to see the dancers, their costumes and stage sets.

The Little Black Dress – The Wardrobe Essential
“The Little Black Dress” has been described as sophisticated, sexy, provocative, chic, elegant, practical, seductive, correct, and ageless. The fashion designer, Christian Dior, said ” You can wear black at any time. You can wear it at any age. You may wear it on almost any occasion. A little black frock is essential to a woman’s wardrobe.” What’s great about “The Little Black Dress” is that it looks fabulous with or without jewelry. You can wear a scarf with it for an interesting effect and it doesn’t show dirt if you take it traveling. In addition black is slimming so you’ll look a few pounds less when wearing it. * The Duchess of Windsor
