The one given when deciding what to wear for your daughter’s wedding is that every MOB (Mother of the Bride) wants to look great. Your daughter is the center of attention on her wedding day but that doesn’t mean you can’t shine too. Mothers of Brides usually have the first choice when it comes to selecting an outfit for their daughter’s wedding but should let the Mother of the Groom in on what she is wearing if possible. 5 Things to Consider when selecting your MOB outfit:
What is the color scheme and theme of the wedding? Mother of the Bride outfits should complement the color scheme of the wedding. Talk to the bride. Your daughter may have preferences such as clothing styles, hemlines. necklines and on colors and patterns.
Color of bridesmaid’s dresses and flowers? Mothers of the Brides should choose a color that flatters their skin tone, hair color and does not clash with the color that the bridesmaids are wearing. The mother of the bride’s dress/outfit can be similar in color to the bridesmaid’s dresses but not the same exact color. Lighter or darker will work.
Formal or casual – Daytime or evening?
Formal can mean cocktail attire or floor-length gown. For casual and daytime weddings short dresses or suits are popular and chic. The style of the MOB’s dress or any outfit she chooses to wear should be in a style that flatters her figure type. If she looks fabulous in pants she can wear pants instead of a dress or skirt suit. Simple and classic is elegant and always an excellent choice. Trendy clothing tends to look dated in photos 5 years after the wedding if not before.
Time of year? Summer weddings can be outside and warm while winter weddings are inside and you want to be warm and comfortable. When choosing your MOB outfit be sure the fabric will work for the time of the year the wedding will take place.
Shoes and accessories? Mothers of the Brides can be on their feet for a long period of time. Be sure to have good-looking comfortable shoes and wear stockings for a polished look. Quality jewelry and a stylish handbag are important to complete your outfit.
