How can I come up with a more professional look? I am a 50 year old woman, 5’3″, 120 lbs with a curvy build. I own my own business, a deck supply company. I am a salesperson so I spend sometime with potential customers & half time on my contractor’s jobsites which can involve climbing ladders, delivering or carrying material, etc. I wear boys cargo shorts (because of the pockets) & polo shirts all summer. It still has to be industry related…no heels or skirts!

How can I come up with a more professional look? Long cargo pants look more professional than shorts. If you need pockets you need cargo pants. Cotton breathes so light weight cotton pants are comfortable in warm weather. You can wear a scoop or “V” neck cotton top with some trim around the neck instead of a polo shirt. Another option is scoop or “V” neck plain cotton top with a feminine shirt (not too baggy) that has a slight nip in the waist over the top. Also, a light weight jacket over a colorful “T” says professional! Usually when it’s hot the air conditioning is on so a jacket will be great in a showroom setting and you can remove it when you get to a job-site. Also some simple but feminine jewelry like a pearl necklace and / or hoop earrings or a colorful scarf will give you a feminine touch. Test a few looks and see what you feel comfortable wearing. Wear good looking comfortable and practical shoes.

Dressing for Evening Business Events
Evening business events after work are usually a little more dressy than daytime office attire. Dress on the conservative side (forget sparkly and shiny) since you will be judged by others. Your presentation might mean getting or not getting a promotion. You want to look poised and that you have good judgement at every business event.
