Handbag Classics
Handbag Classics
Every major couturier/designer from the 1920s has created handbag classics to go with their outfits. Handbags have been inspired by real women—notably Grace Kelly, the Kelly bag, and the Hermès Birkin Bag named after the actress Jane Birkin.
The Birkin Bag looks similar to the Kelly Bag but is larger. The Birkin Bag is the most coveted bag and it is the iconic symbol of fashion, luxury, and wealth. Recently a crocodile Hermès Birkin Bag with diamonds sold at auction for $222,000.00.
The Kelly bag is a trapezium closed with two straps. Four studs on the bottom, made of three layers of leather, enable it to stand on the ground. It is sold in eight sizes. The padlock, keys and hardware are made of white or yellow gold. The construction of each Kelly bag requires 18 to 25 hours by a single artisan.
