A functional but fashionable winter coat or jacket should both be stylish and keep you warm. You should have something to wear every day that goes with your wardrobe colors. Choose outerwear that complements most looks – be it jeans and a simple tee or a glitzy evening dress.

Roomy coats and jackets and capes are the hot trends this winter. Coats and jackets that are loose or belted to adjust for layers are hot and beige is a popular color this season. Fur or faux fur trim adds a touch of luxury to any style coat or jacket. If you will be outdoors a lot, layering is important as temperatures can vary from morning to evening.

What are “cocoon” coats?
Cocoon coats are warm, roomy style coats with rounded, sloped shoulders, voluminous arcing sleeves (some not full length), and a structured body. These coats were popularized by Balenciaga. Cocoon coats offer comfort with a bit of drama. They lend themselves to layering when you start with a streamlined piece such as a bodysuit. Cocoon coats are more flattering on tall women. For an up-to-date look pair with slim-fit pants, leggings, or a pencil skirt. Accessorize with simple pearls and heels or ankle shoes/boots.

Statement Trench Coats
Statement trench coats were key pieces in many designer collections this season: Valentino ,Celine, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Galliano, Maison Margiela and Chloe. The NEW statement trench coats had fashion elements such as bold colors, puffed sleeves, new fabrics such as, brocades, plaids, prints and metallic. While other styles had  unusual buttons (sparkly) or corset waists.
