Is it OK to wear black velvet shoes with black or nude color hosiery? I am attending an evening wedding in February and wearing a purple dress.

Velvet can be worn all year around. Evening weddings are dressy affairs so black velvet shoes should look very chic with your purple dress. Either nude color or sheer black stockings will probably look good with a purple dress. Nude / neutral color stockings look best usually worn with closed toe style shoes. You can wear sheer black hosiery with closed or open toe shoes.
